In The Style Of
Sarah Hayes
Meet Sarah Hayes, FV's Retail Operations Manager. Amid the openings of our two newest stores in Dallas and Naples, she opens up her closet and shares her take on personal style.
What does style mean to you?
Feeling confident, comfortable and ready for anything. You never know who you’re going to bump into in NYC.
Where do you find inspiration?
NYC, I love a long walk. I am also always inspired by my friends, one of them took these photos! Frances Valentine’s art director, Adam, was a great friend before either of us started working for the company.
Favorite piece in your wardrobe?Â
My FV Perfect White Button Downs, two sizes too big.
Favorite FV Memory?
The time that Timothée Chalamet knocked on the window at our store on Madison Ave after we had closed because he wanted to buy a sweater for his mom.
What’s on your coffee table?Â
My apartment is too tiny for a coffee table. I have small side tables that are covered in snacks and wine glasses.
What’s hanging on your walls?Â
So many things! Every wall is full in my apartment and I wish I had even more room. A mix of vintage paintings, gifts from friends, and pieces from my family hang in my living room. My bedroom is completely covered in block printed fabric. It was a DIY project with the help from a friend and it is completely imperfect. I love it! The best thing of all is I can take down the fabric when I move and repurpose it for something else.
What can’t you live without?Â
A sense of humor and cheeky trinkets. My ‘please leave by 9’ pillow always gets a laugh and people often ask if I really mean it. (I do!)Â
What’s the last song you listened to?Â
Not a song, but I have been listening to Lycette’s Autumn playlist on repeat. Lycette is a needlepoint shop in Palm Beach and has a great mix of playlists on Spotify.
What’s the most recent interesting thing you saw?Â
A handmade beaded suitcase from 1903 that is on display at the Met Museum. It was a special gift made by a mother for her daughter and the details she included were impeccable. I can’t stop thinking about it. Part of the current exhibition, Art of Native America.
Favorite color?
Currently citron green which is also the color on the walls of my apartment.
Favorite dish?Â
Fries and a martini. Named the New York happy meal for good reason.
Favorite pastime?Â
Redecorating on a whim and searching for the next perfect vintage item that I definitely don’t need.
What brings you joy?
Hanging out and having fun with my friends and family. Waking up each day in New York, it is always an adventure and I am grateful for every minute!
