Use the tape to circle your waist (like a belt would) at your natural waistline, which is located above your belly button. The tape should not feel snug, it should have some give.
With your heels together measure around the widest part of your hips (about 8in or 20cm below your natural waist).
Place one end of the tape measure at the widest part of your chest, wrap it around (under your arms). The tape should not feel snug, it should have some give.
