In The Style Of

Carrie Colbert

Meet Carrie Colbert, Founding and General Partner of Curate Capital - a venture capital fund that invests in consumer brands by women for women. With a love for color, Carrie effortlessly styles our new, bold spring pieces into her everyday wardrobe.

What does style mean to you?

Style is so much more than just fashion and what you wear. Style is a way of communicating to others what you're all about. It's a way of displaying your internal ethos externally. Personally, I aim to be a joyful, happy, warm, and approachable person, so wearing color exudes that for me.

What’s on your coffee table?

In the spirit of keeping it real, I'm in a season of life where practicality wins out. With a five-year-old and two-year-old, all breakables have been removed. All that remains are some beloved art-focused books and such.

What’s hanging on your wall?

I'm a big art lover, and I'm a big color lover. So colorful art is everywhere in my home! Colorful art brings me joy. Some of my favorite artists to collect includeGina Julian, Ashley Longshore, Gray Malin, Hunt Slonem, Stephanie Henderson, Angela Chrusciaki Blehm, Ron Giusti, and Katie Craig. Some other artists I am eyeing include Carly Allen Martin, Erin Tice, Evan Mooney, Kelly O'Connor, and so many more!

What can’t you live without?

Taking care of myself - physically, mentally, and spiritually. I must take care of myself first to be of any benefit and service to others. It took me many years to learn this lesson the hard way, but truly I'm a better person when I take the time to take care of myself.

What could you do without?

Negativity, drama, gossip. I have no time or energy for those sorts of things.

What's the last book you read?

How to Think Like a Roman Emperor and also Stress Less, Accomplish More

What's the last interesting thing you saw?

I'm currently at Sea Island for The Southern C - a conference for female entrepreneurs. And this place is gorgeous! I find a change of scenery to be so refreshing for me mentally. Particularly, there's something revitalizing about being connected to nature, as I am here.

Favorite Color?

Is "rainbow" a color? Ha. If so, that's my answer. If I have to pick just one color, it's definitely pink.

Favorite dish?

I'm a sucker for homemade pasta! For dessert, I'll forever choose strawberry shortcake anytime it's available.

Favorite pastime?

At the risk of sounding cliche, my favorite pastime is traveling. I'm from a very small town, so traveling was how I really began to expand my worldview and dream of what might be possible.

Favorite piece in your wardrobe?

Everything Frances Valentine, of course! For travel, I live in my FV caftans. This new one in red and pink is my current favorite, while this peony caftan in vibrant blue is a longtime favorite. When I want to make a statement in business, I gravitate to my hot pink velvet suit (Finley blazer and Lucy pants)

What brings you joy?

Well, I really enjoy what I do professionally... Curate Capital, my venture capital fund, invests in female-founded businesses. I love helping women grow their businesses, achieve success, and fulfill their dreams.

But at the end of the day, nothing matters more than my family. I have two young children - Elle (age 5) and Luke (age 2). They are the biggest blessings! Not only do they bring me joy, but they motivate me to be a better person.

What are you wearing?

Frances Valentine's Fairisle Sweater in Pink, Jane Corduroy's in navy, Ater Caftan in red, and Paula heels in red velvet.
